Stamped "THE ANGLEPOISE" PAT UK AND ABROAD MADE IN ENGLAND BY HERBERT TERRY & SONS REDDITCH
Models 1208/9 were the first Angelpoise designs by George Carwardine an automotive engineer in the 1930's in Bath, Somerset, United Kingdom. Intended only for industrial and certain commercial purposes the design included a 4-spring mechanism.
The original registration included the name "Equipoise" (balance of forces or interests due to the balancing and movement of the lamp in various positions) however this was rejected and the Anglepoise brand commenced.
Carwardine searched for quality springs to realise his invention and found Herbert Terry & Sons of Redditch, north-east Worcestershire, United Kingdom, a highly successful specialist spring business.
Carwardine partnered and entered into a licensing agreement with Herbert Terry and Sons in Redditch 22.02.1934 and Terry's manufactured and marketed future models.
Carwardine continued to develop the 1208 concept, producing various versions, the famous 1227 Model followed.
This lamp is now highly suitable for desks, studies, living areas, bedroom, B&B's, hotels, Boutique Hotels, restaurant, retail display, advertising or television prop, set dressings
